For the third consecutive year , Sirmione confirms its position among the Italian excellences in environmental protection and sustainable management of the territory, obtaining the Blue Flag 2025 , the prestigious international recognition awarded by the FEE , Foundation for Environmental Education .
The title was also awarded this year to Giamaica Beach (Lido delle Grotte), one of the most evocative and representative places in the area.
The official award ceremony took place on Tuesday 13 May in Rome , at the Italian headquarters of FEE.
The Mayor of Sirmione , Luisa Lavelli , collected the certification, which recognizes the constant commitment of the municipal administration to safeguard and enhance the environment. Two other towns on Lake Garda obtained the recognition in Lombardy: Toscolano Maderno and Gardone Riviera .
Water and beach quality , sustainable land management practices with particular attention to accessibility for people with disabilities and bathing safety are the basis for the assignment of the Blue Flag . To these parameters are added others evaluated rigorously and with certified and transparent procedures: environmental education , waste and wastewater management , energy saving, sustainable mobility.
This recognition, obtained also thanks to the coordination of Luca Fila and the support of the Garda Community , enhances the tourist offer of Sirmione, attesting to the community's commitment to the responsible management of the coast and the environment.
Obtaining this important recognition would not have been possible without the active collaboration of the Regional Directorate of Museums of Lombardy , the Directorate of the archaeological area of the Grotte di Catullo , the manager of the Lido delle Grotte and the municipal offices . Special thanks also go to the Istituto Scolastico Trebeschi , to Sirmione Servizi and to the numerous associations in the area, which every year promote educational activities and projects in the environmental field.
FEE , recognized by UNESCO as a world leader in environmental education and sustainable development, awards the Blue Flag every year in 49 countries around the world. The program aims to promote sustainable land management in coastal municipalities, encouraging environmentally friendly and respectful environmental policies.
